alert Ryan Newman's terrifying crash mars finish to Daytona 500 won by Denny Hamlin
Posted by: G-Zero Guest - Today 07:04 AM - Replies (1)

Denny Hamlin won his second-straight Daytona 500, but the victory was subdued after Ryan Newman’s car flipped as they raced toward the checkered flag.

About a football field from the finish, Newman led the race only to get turned by Ryan Blaney. Newman’s car flipped, then got hit directly on the driver’s side as it skidded on the track upside down.

As Newman’s car crashed behind them, Hamlin beat Blaney to the finish.

Crews worked for minutes after the crash to extricate Newman from the car and he was transported to a local hospital. No immediate update was given on his condition.

Newman was blocking Blaney as they came to the finish line and got turned into the wall before the car went upside down.

hot Movement of Cosmos satellite didn’t violate intl law, posed no threat – Moscow
Posted by: PiXaR - Today 06:36 AM - Replies (1)

The movement of the Cosmos-2542 satellite, a matter over which the US has expressed concern, posed no threat and did not violate international law, Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Monday. It added that the continuing propaganda campaign against Russia is aimed “at masking Washington’s destructive actions, which are provoking an arms race in outer space and transforming space into a new field of military confrontation.”

US Space Force Commander Gen. John Raymond said on February 11 that the United States had notified Russia through diplomatic channels that it was concerned by an incident in which Russian satellites had allegedly approached a US one.

The Russian ministry also said on Monday that currently, there is no alternative – nor can there be one – to the Russian-Chinese proposal to develop an international, legally binding instrument to keep space free from weapons of any kind.

DAYTONA — NASCAR Driver Ryan Newman was involved in a serious crash at the finish line of the Daytona 500 Monday night as he attempted to get past Denny Hamlin, who won the race.

According to media on the track, Newman did not respond to radio communications from his team as medics attempted to put out the flames and reach the 42-year-old driver.

Newman was placed in an ambiance behind black screens to keep fans from seeing the transport. Media members also said they were told to leave the pits.

cib Strange gas movement in heart of Milky Way hints at UNCONFIRMED form of black hole
Posted by: Ele - Today 06:21 AM - Replies (1)

A peculiar movement of gas clouds close to the center of our galaxy may finally provide concrete evidence for a mysterious form of black hole whose very existence has yet to be proven by scientists.
We already know that the smallest and the largest types of black hole exist, but for a long time doubts have remained about the middle category.

violin China says US is an ‘EMPIRE OF HACKERS,’ mocks cyber-accusations in wake of Crypto scandal
Posted by: Mr Big - Today 06:19 AM - Replies (1)

Washington accusing other states of leading cyberwarfare against the US is like “a thief crying ‘stop, thief!’” Beijing said, reacting to revelations the CIA used Swiss cryptography firm Crypto AG to spy on hundreds of countries.
The US government has “conducted large-scale, organized and indiscriminate cyber theft, tapping and surveillance on foreign governments, businesses and individuals, a fact already well-known to all,” China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a daily briefing in Beijing.

These spying activities, which violate international law and undermine trust between the US and other nations, had been unmasked by whistleblower Edward Snowden and by WikiLeaks – a fact Geng was also keen to remind the audience of. Among other things, the Americans have been collecting billions of phonecalls around the globe on a daily basis and were even revealed to be spying on German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s phone.

clev Danish troops to return to Iraq air base for anti-ISIS campaign in March
Posted by: G-Zero Guest - Today 06:11 AM - Replies (1)

Denmark said it will send military personnel back to the Iraqi Al-Asad base on March 1 to restart training of Iraqi security forces in the fight against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

The NATO member-state last month removed most of the 130 military personnel it had stationed at the Al-Asad base, due to security concerns in the wake of an Iranian missile attack on the facility on January 8. Denmark’s forces at the base are part of the international coalition fighting IS in Iraq and Syria.

hot 'Breaking point': Babies dying in freezing cold amid Idlib push
Posted by: Mr Big - Today 05:19 AM - Replies (2)

Out in the open and under the freezing weather, Mustafa Hamadi and his family settled into their makeshift tent in the village of Killi, in the northwestern Syrian province of Idlib - their second time being displaced in less than one year. The sub-zero temperatures that night on February 11 kept them awake, so just before midnight, Mustafa moved the gas heater inside the tent.

When the morning came, Mustafa, his wife Amoun, their 12-year-old daughter Huda and their granddaughter Hoor, who was just three years old, were all found dead after being poisoned by carbon monoxide.

One of the more common theories as to why Social Security is facing a huge long-term cash shortfall is that lawmakers in Congress have pilfered cash from the program and never returned it.

shin Mississippi Flooding Remains Disasterous
Posted by: (I) Bot - Today 03:53 AM - Replies (1)

Forecasters in Mississippi are bracing for what could be one of the most devastating floods in the state's history, as days of heavy downpours stoke fears that a river in the state capital of Jackson will continue to swell beyond its banks and threaten the homes of thousands of people.
Flooding has already began to ripple across parts of Jackson and surrounding areas, and state and federal officials are working to contain the severity of the flooding in the face of additional rainfall expected in the days ahead.
