Russian special services are investigating whether Western intelligence services were involved in the events which unfolded in Russia Saturday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in video comments to Russia Today.Β

Russia often alleges foreign interference in domestic ongoings. Lavrov did not immediately present evidence or further information of that alleged investigation.

However, he noted that the US ambassador to Russia signaled that the US had “nothing to do” with the events.

A huge asteroid is hurtling towards planet Earth, and is expected to make its closest approach on Sunday at 7:19 p.m. ET.

Dubbed 2023 MU2, it was only discovered a week ago, as per the International Astronomical Union’s Minor Planet Center. The near-Earth asteroid is estimated to be somewhere between 13 and 29 feet in diameter (3.9-8.8 meters), or, in other words, close to the size of a three-story building.

It will skim past within 134,000 miles (215,000 kilometers) of Earth. Incidentally, the distance is about 60 percent of the average distance from our planet to the moon. For those wanting to get an eyeful, you can observe the pass by via a livestream provided by theΒ Virtual Telescope Project.

Rebellious Russian mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin said on Saturday he had taken control of the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don as part of an attempt to oust the military leadership amid what the authorities said was an armed mutiny.

The dramatic turn, with many details unclear, looked like the biggest domestic crisis President Vladimir Putin has faced since he ordered a full-scale invasion of Ukraine – something he called a “special military operation” – in February last year.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wagner’s “betrayal” and “any actions that fracture our unity,” are “a stab in the back of our country and our people.” And he wants Wagner β€˜crushed’

After a dayslong, massive search for a Titanic-bound submersible that captured international attention, US authorities announced the vessel had suffered a β€œcatastrophic implosion” – and new information from a US Navy source helps shed light on when that disaster may have unfolded.

All five people aboard the submersible, known as the β€œTitan,” were killed, the US Coast Guard said in a Thursday news conference. The tail cone and other debris from the missing submersible were found by a remotely operated vehicle about 1,600 feet from the bow of the Titanic, which rests about 13,000 feet deep in the North Atlantic Ocean.

β€œThe debris is consistent with a catastrophic implosion of the vessel,” US Coast Guard Rear Adm. John Mauger, the First Coast Guard District commander, told reporters.

Five people were detained for trying to export a kilogram of radioactive caesium-137 to use it to the detriment of Russian interests during a special operation, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said.

The Russian Federal Security Service said that those suspected of trying to smuggle caesium-137 out of the country to discredit Russia had been arrested and are confessing. A case was opened on the illegal handling and smuggling of radioactive substances.

Caesium-137 is a radioactive isotope that is commonly used in medical and industrial applications, in addition to peaceful uses, caesium could be used to make weapons of mass destruction. Due to its long half-life and high energy radiation, caesium-137 poses a significant hazard to human health and the environment.

In an announcement on Friday, the head of the beleaguered agency said she would step down in June. β€œWe made this world a safer place,” she said.

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will step down from her position on June 30, she announced on Friday, capping a tumultuous tenure at the nation’s leading public health agency as it struggled to rein in the Covid-19 pandemic, the greatest threat to American well-being in decades.
