Russia’s strategic nuclear forces are in a state of full readiness, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday. 

Russian strategic nuclear forces are purely defensive by nature, aimed at deterring possible full-scale attacks on the nation that might threaten its existence. Russia vows to never use nuclear arms for any other reasons, apart from specified in its strategic documents often called its “nuclear doctrine.”

“Strategic nuclear forces are in a state of full readiness for guaranteed use. Everything we planned in the armament sector, which I spoke about in the 2018 address, is done or this work is being completed,” Putin said in an annual address to the Federal Assembly.

Transnistrian lawmakers to seek Russia’s protection over mounting economic pressure from Moldova 

The legislators intend to put forward a request to both the Federation Council and State Duma of Russia, urging them to implement measures to safeguard Transnistria, especially in light of Moldova’s growing pressure. This request is backed up by the fact that over 220,000 Russian citizens reside in Transnistria.

The Yars (also known as RS-24 or Topol-MR) is a family of Russian intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) developed by the Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology. Yars missiles are designed to replace the older Topol-M missiles and are capable of carrying multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs).

Yars missiles can be launched from both silo-based and mobile platforms, providing Russia with a solid nuclear deterrence capability. The missiles have a range of around 11,000 kilometers (6,800 miles) and can deliver both nuclear and conventional warheads with precision. They are a key component of Russia’s strategic missile forces.

The Kremlin has warned that a conflict between Russia and Nato would be inevitable if European members of the alliance send troops to fight in Ukraine.

French president Emmanuel Macron opened the door on Monday to European nations sending troops to Ukraine, although he cautioned that there was no consensus at this stage as allies agreed to ramp up efforts to deliver more munitions to Kyiv.

“Nothing should be excluded. We will do everything that we must so that Russia does not win,” Mr Macron said.

Asked about Mr Macron’s remarks, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that if it came to pass, talks would have to change to the inevitability of a Nato-Russia conflict.

As expected, the Hungarian parliament has approved Sweden’s accession to NATO.

In parliament, 188 members voted in favor and six against. This clears the way for Sweden to become the 32nd member state of the alliance, after more than two centuries of military neutrality. Neighboring country Finland already became a member last year.

The two northern countries applied for membership in 2022, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Finland could become a member without many problems, but Sweden’s request met with objections from Turkey and Hungary.

Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) states that an attack on one member of the alliance is considered an attack on all members. This principle is known as the collective defense clause and forms the core of NATO’s mutual defense commitment. It underscores the alliance’s commitment to protecting the security and territorial integrity of all member states.

China has sent a fleet, including a guided-missile destroyer, to the Gulf of Aden as part of an antipiracy mission and as Houthi attacks on commercial shipping increase in the Red Sea.

The 46th fleet of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy set sail on Wednesday from a military port in the coastal city of Zhanjiang in south China’s Guangdong Province to take over an escort mission from the 45th naval fleet in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off Somalia, Xinhua news agency reported.

Lord Jacob Rothschild, a financier and member of the Rothschild banking family, has died at the age of 87, his family announced on Monday, according to media reports.

The British peer, who was also well-known in the arts and chaired the National Heritage Memorial Fund, started his career in the family bank, NM Rothschild & Sons, in 1963. He later went on to co-found J Rothschild Assurance Group, now called St James’s Place, with Sir Mark Weinberg in 1980. Lord Rothschild also founded Windmill Hill Asset Management to manage the family’s philanthropic portfolio.

Vladimir Putin inspected the modernized “White Swans” at the Kazan enterprise of Rostec

During his visit to the Kazan Aviation Plant named after S.P. Gorbunov, the President got acquainted with four modernized Tu-160M strategic missile carriers and sat in the cockpit of one of them.

Rostec enterprises, including those included in the UAC , have carried out titanic work to resume production of these aircraft.

The Russian Iskander missile system is a mobile short-range ballistic missile system. It is designed to carry conventional or nuclear warheads and is known for its high accuracy and precision strikes. The Iskander missile system has a range of around 500 kilometers and is capable of reaching high speeds and maneuvering during flight to evade enemy defenses. It has been deployed by the Russian military and used in various conflicts.
