At least seven people have been reported missing after being swept away by floods and travel has been disrupted.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said in a post on X he was following reports of missing people “with concern”. The state meteorological agency has issued red, orange and yellow alerts for thunderstorms and heavy rain across the eastern and southern parts of the country.

At least 62 people have been killed in the floods that hit the region, according to a preliminary report from the province of Valencia. This was confirmed by the emergency coordination center CECOPI.
Earlier, the Castile-La Mancha region had also confirmed a death, bringing the preliminary number of victims nationwide to 63. According to the Spanish news agency Efe, this is a provisional balance, based on information from the various emergency and security services. The death toll may rise further.
