Seoul says the show of force was a response to North Korea’s testing of a Hwasongpho-19 ICBM last week

South Korea launched a Hyunmoo-II ballistic missile on Thursday, the country’s media has reported, citing the military. Seoul said its latest live-fire exercise was a warning against any potential β€œprovocation”by the North.

The short-range ballistic missile hit a target in the Yellow Sea, which represented a North Korean launch pad in the exercise, Yonhap news agency reported on Friday, quoting South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.

β€œOur military demonstrated its strong resolve to respond to any North Korean provocation as well as the capabilities and posture for precision strikes,” military officials in Seoul stated, according to the media outlet.

Authorities in South Carolina on Thursday warned residents to lock their doors and windows after more than 40 monkeys escaped from a research facility.

The primates broke loose from a Alpha Genesis facility in Beaufort County and traps have been set up and thermal imaging cameras are being used in an effort to locate the fugitive monkeys, the Yemassee Police Department said in a statement.

In an update posted Thursday, police confirmed 43 rhesus macaque primates escaped and none had been captured as of early afternoon. Authorities said the primates were “very young females weighing approximately 6-7 lbs” and had never been used for testing due to their age.

Pharmaceutical leaders reportedly convened urgently after Trump’s election win and RFK Jr.’s pledge to β€œgut” the FDA’s nutrition division.

Following President-elect Donald Trump’s victory, executives from the top five pharmaceutical companies reportedly held an emergency meeting to discuss potential regulatory shake-ups. Concerns have intensified with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an outspoken critic of federal health agencies, set to play a significant role in restructuring public health regulations under the new administration.

Jamel Holley, a New Jersey assemblyman and advisor to Kennedy, stated, β€œThe top CEOs are in a state of panic,” adding that the teleconference addressed a new β€œthreat environment” as the pharmaceutical sector braces for major policy shifts.

The team of US President-elect Donald Trump has proposed to freeze the Ukrainian conflict and provide new arms supplies in exchange for Kiev’s refusal to join NATO for at least 20 years, the Wall Street Journal newspaper reported on Thursday, citing sources.

The newspaper reported that this idea also includes creating an 800-mile demilitarized zone but it remains unclear who would police the territory.

The “peacekeeping force” would not involve US troops, nor come from a US-funded international body, such as the United Nations, the report added. A Trump adviser also said, as quoted by the Wall Street Journal, that Europeans should maintain peace in Ukraine. However, the US leader has not approved any of these plans yet.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an anti-vaccine activist, appears to be angling for a Cabinet role. He has advocated dismantling core functions of federal health agencies.

Kennedy, also an attorney, practiced environmental law and founded Children’s Health Defense, which is now the most well-funded anti-vaccine organization in the country.

During the pandemic, he became the purveyor of wild conspiracy theories, often aimed at public health officials in the agencies he now seeks to lead. Kennedy has criticized Dr. Anthony Fauci, former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, for Covid’s death toll and said Fauci should be prosecuted if he committed a crime. He has also said the attorney general should force editors of medical journals to publish retracted studies.

Trump will be investigating Big Pharma for the “stunning rise” in autism, infertility, allergies, & child illness.

“If Big Pharma defrauds American patients & taxpayers or puts profits above people, they must be held accountable.”

Republicans in Congress are congratulating Donald Trump on his historic reelection.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said in a statement, β€œWith President Trump back in the White House, there is no obstacle too great and no challenge too difficult.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham called on special counsel Jack Smith to end his federal investigations into Trump.

β€œTo Jack Smith and your team: It is time to look forward to a new chapter in your legal careers as these politically motivated charges against President Trump hit a wall,” Graham posted on x.com.

β€œThe Supreme Court substantially rejected what you were trying to do, and after tonight, it’s clear the American people are tired of lawfare. Bring these cases to an end. The American people deserve a refund,” he said.

In a statement on Tuesday, Kim Yo-jong lashed out at the US and its Asian allies over their β€œmost hostile and aggressive” attitude toward North Korea.

Kim Yo-jong, deputy department director of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, and sister of the DPRK’s head of state Kim Jong-un, has warned of far-reaching consequences from what she described as “ever-escalating military threats of hostile forces.”

She referred to recent joint drills of the US, Japan and South Korea, which she said was held “under the signboard of β€˜counteraction’ and β€˜warning’ to North Korea’s latest strategic weapon test.”

“This is another absolute proof of the validity and urgency of the line of building up the nuclear forces we have opted for and put into practice. Today’s upset of the balance of power between rivals on the Korean Peninsula and in the region precisely means a war. And this is an undeniable objective reality,” Kim’s sister underscored.
