Klaus Schwab, the founder and ex-chairman of the World Economic Forum, resigned earlier this week without giving a reason

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has launched an internal investigation into whistleblower allegations of misconduct involving its founder and former chairman, Klaus Schwab, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing a statement from the organization.

The report came one day after Schwab stepped down as chair of the WEF’s board of trustees without publicly explaining his decision. His resignation ended more than 50 years at the helm of the WEF, which he founded in 1971 and built into the influential host of the annual Davos summit of world leaders and chief executives.

According to the WSJ, the WEF board received an anonymous letter last week, reportedly from current and former employees, accusing Schwab and his wife, Hilde – also a former WEF employee – of financial and ethical misconduct. The letter claimed Schwab used the organization’s funds for personal expenses and instructed junior staff to withdraw cash for private use, including massages during official trips. It also alleged that Hilde Schwab used WEF money for luxury hotel stays during personal trips.

UK scientists are to launch outdoor geoengineering experiments as part of a Β£50m government-funded programme.

The experiments will be small-scale and rigorously assessed, according to Advanced Research and Invention Agency (Aria), theΒ UK government agency backing the plan, and will provide β€œcritical” data needed to assess the potential of the technology.

The programme, along with another Β£11m project, will make the UK one of the biggest funders of geoengineering research in the world.

Geoengineering is controversial and some previous planned outdoor experiments have been cancelled after strong opposition. Most geoengineering proposals aim to block sunlight reaching the Earth’s surface, for example by launching clouds of reflective particles into the atmosphere or using seawater sprays to make clouds brighter.

According to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), everyone has the right to access official information from federal authorities. But what is the FIA really worth in practice?

Why can health authorities delay the release of requested documents for years? And why, when the documents are finally released, are they usually redacted beyond recognition, even though complementary information has since become available internationally?

Since February 2022, we, a group of chemistry and physics professors, have been seeking information on mRNA vaccines from our national and European authorities.

We are particularly interested in analytical measurement methods for vaccine quality assurance and tolerances regarding the integrity and concentration of ingredients.

As far as we understand, this information is not subject to the manufacturers’ trade and business secrets, but is provided to them by the authorities. The highest authority responsible for the approval of medicinal products, including in Germany, is the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

According to its own internal rules for dealing with the Freedom of Information Act, EMA allows every EU citizen to request two documents, which must be provided within two years. We requested documents important to the public in April 2022.

Washington officials have had β€œvery good meetings” with leaders in both Moscow and Kiev, according to the US president

US President Donald Trump has said that he will reveal his plan to settle the Ukraine conflict later this week. According to the New York Post, the White House proposal could include the deployment of Western European troops to the country to uphold a possible ceasefire.

The announcement follows last week’s remarks by Trump and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who hinted that Washington could give up on its efforts to stop the fighting unless it sees tangible progress towards peace made by Russia and Ukraine.

β€œI will be giving you a full detail over the next three days,” Trump said on Monday, referring to his plan.

β€œBut we had very good meetings on Ukraine, Russia… We will see how that works,” he told journalists.

The New York Post reported on Monday, citing a senior US administration official, that Russia and Ukraine are currently discussing Trump’s proposal internally.

Schwab informed the WEF’s board that “as I enter my 88th year, I have decided to step down from the position of Chair and as a member of the Board of Trustees, with immediate effect”.

Schwab stepped down as executive chairman last year, with former Norwegian foreign minister Borge Brende taking over daily management.

The WEF said Vice Chairman Peter Brabeck-Letmathe was appointed board chairman in the interim and that a search committee for replacement had been appointed.

WEF’s board hailed Schwab’s “outstanding achievements” in his 55 years as the leader of the organisation.

“At a time when the world is undergoing rapid transformation, the need for inclusive dialogue to navigate complexity and shape the future has never been more critical,” it said in a statement.

“Building on its trusted role, the Forum will continue to bring together leaders from all sectors and regions to exchange insights and foster collaboration,” it added.

China does not accept any deals of other countries that are concluded at the expense of its interests; if this happens, Beijing will take equivalent countermeasures, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said, commenting on reports of US plans to achieve economic isolation of China.Β

Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that the US authorities planned to obtain commitments from trading partners to economically isolate China in exchange for lower tariffs during negotiations with other countries.

“China respects the desire of all parties to resolve trade and economic differences with the United States through equal consultations,” the ministry said.

It noted that, in China’s opinion, in the issue of “reciprocal tariffs” all parties should stand on the side of justice, on the right side of history and protect international trade and economic rules and the multilateral trading system.
