A second high-ranking Indian official has arrived in Moscow within the past two weeks to engage in discussions with the Russian president. Prior to this, PM Modi’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, visited Moscow.

The meeting was also attended by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and Chairman of the Russian side of the Intergovernmental Russian-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation Denis Manturov, and the Ambassador of India to Russia, Vinay Kumar.

On Wednesday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Moscow, where he co-chaired the 26th meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation, alongside Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.

North Carolina’s Outer Banks are bearing the brunt of Erin’s worst impacts on US soil, but the rest of the East Coast isn’t getting away clean.

A myriad of marine warnings from the National Weather Service stretch along almost the entire coast from Florida to Maine today as the massive hurricane roughs up seas hundreds of miles from its center.

Tropical storm warnings are still in effect in parts of Virginia and Maryland, where Erin sent some tropical storm-force wind gusts of 40 to 45 mph this morning.

As it moves farther north today, the hurricane will ramp up coastal flooding risks for other parts of the mid-Atlantic as well as the Northeast by driving water levels higher than they should be, especially at high tide.

For example: Moderate coastal flooding is possible in much of New Jersey from later today through Friday, while some parts of far southern New Jersey and southern Delaware could experience major coastal flooding, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey.

German prosecutors have announced the arrest of Ukrainian citizen Sergei K. in Italy, suspected of coordinating the sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines in 2022. 

The arrest was made on August 21, 2025, based on a European arrest warrant issued by Germany’s Federal Court. 

According to the prosecutor’s office, Sergei K. is accused of complicity in organizing the explosions, unconstitutional sabotage, and destruction of infrastructure. He is believed to have been part of a group that placed explosive devices on the pipelines near Bornholm in September 2022. 

The operation involved using a sailing yacht rented with forged documents, which left Rostock before the explosive devices detonated on September 26, causing significant damage to the pipelines. Once extradited from Italy, Sergei K. will face a judge in Germany for further proceedings.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is ready to make “some compromise” on his demand that a ceasefire takes place before any talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin – as long as some security guarantees for Ukraine are established.

His comments come as Moscow openly contradicts the White House narrative that plans for a bilateral meeting between Putin and Zelensky are “underway.”

Ukraine and its allies in Europe have long pushed for there to be a ceasefire as a first step towards ending the war, which would require resolving seemingly intractable issues such as land and security guarantees.

Ukraine has previously agreed part of its security guarantees with Washington involves spending some $90 billion on US weapons, a cost Zelensky defended, saying: “I believe that a strong weapons component has been outlined, one that the Ukrainian army needs as part of security guarantees. This sum is justified.”
