Argentina has announced its withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO), citing fundamental policy disagreements, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic. The move mirrors a decision made last month by US President Donald Trump.
In a statement on X on Wednesday, President Javier Mileiβs office declared that the WHO, which was created to coordinate responses to global health emergencies, had βfailed its biggest testβ during the coronavirus outbreak.
It further claimed that the prolonged quarantines led to βone of the greatest economic catastrophes in world history.β In Argentina, the months-long lockdowns under the previous government β endorsed by the WHO β crippled the economy and resulted in 130,000 deaths, the presidential office argued.
