A Seoul court has granted a warrant to detain Yoon Suk Yeol on insurrection charges

Officers from South Korea’s Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) attempted to execute an arrest warrant for impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol early Friday but were blocked by military personnel serving under the Presidential Security Service (PSS), according to Yonhap News Agency.

The incident unfolded at Yoon’s residence, where the military unit presumed to be from the 55th Security Brigade was reportedly deployed to block the warrant against Yoon, escalating tensions surrounding this unprecedented step against a sitting president, Yonhap wrote on Friday.

Thousands of supporters gathered near Yoon’s home, complicating the arrest attempts. On Thursday, around 30 protesters were forcibly removed after breaking through a police barrier and clashing with officers, as reported by Yonhap.

Supporters of impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol are adopting 'Stop the Steal' slogans popularized by US President-elect Donald Trump supporters and said they hoped the incoming president would help their embattled leader reut.rs/4gB2qjV 1/8

Every evening, Ergus Katiaj uploads a video on TikTok reminding customers that his shop in Tirana delivers potato chips, cigarettes and alcohol through the night. His phone buzzes with orders that add about 1,000 euros to his monthly profit.

But Katiaj will soon have to find a new way to attract business. Albania’s government has imposed a year-long ban on the social media app that it says is aimed at reducing youth violence but which rights groups and business owners say threatens commerce and free speech ahead of May elections.

“It will have a huge impact on my business because most of the sales are through delivery thanks to TikTok’s free marketing,” Katiaj said as he made deliveries across the outskirts of the capital.

Hospitals overrun, crematoriums strained, and citizens panickingβ€”China grapples with a state of emergency as multiple respiratory viruses wreak havoc.

Nationwide Emergency Declared Amid Unprecedented Health Crisis

China has reportedly declared a state of emergency as a severe outbreak of multiple respiratory viruses, including Influenza A, Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and COVID-19, overwhelms healthcare systems across the nation. The alarming situation has strained hospitals, exhausted medical staff, and pushed crematoriums beyond their capacity. ( Not Confirmed )

Officials allegedly announced the emergency after an alarming surge in cases that experts describe as unprecedented in scope. In densely populated cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, patients reportedly face hours-long waits for hospital beds, and many are forced to seek care in crowded hallways. Videos circulating on social media depict overflowing crematoriums, with reports of extended delays for funerary services.

Mother Nature is getting a jumpstart on a resolution to revive winter in the United States after a recentΒ warm spellΒ and last year’sΒ warmest winterΒ on record.

Multiple bursts of increasingly brutal, cold Arctic air will overspread the eastern two-thirds of the country over the next few days, dropping temperatures to dangerous lows by next week.

Temperatures are shaping up to be the coldest of the winter so far and will be frigid even for what’s already typically the coldest time of the year. The cold will be pervasive – more than 70% of the country’s population will experience freezing temperatures over the next week – and stick around well into the month, increasing chances for snow.

The first push of cold air will come Wednesday for the north-central US with high temperatures in the single digits or teens expected for parts of Montana, the Dakotas and Minnesota.

Consumption in Germany has jumped by almost 6% in the final three months of 2024, according to grid chief Klaus Muller

Households and businesses in Germany should save gas to avoid shortages, Die Welt reported on Wednesday, citing the country’s energy regulator, the Federal Network Agency. According to an analysis by the agency, the country has been consuming significantly more gas this heating season than last year.

The agency said total gas consumption in Germany rose by 5.8% from October to December 2024 against the same period the previous year, to 246 terawatt-hours (TWh). Industries recorded an increase in consumption of 9.1% compared to 2023, while the increase in households and businesses was more modest at 1.9%, the report noted.

Five people have been charged in connection with the death of One Direction singer Liam Payne in Argentina, the authorities there say.

The 31-year-old star died on 16 October after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires.

The hotel’s manager, Gilda Martin, and its receptionist, Esteban Grassi, as well as Payne’s friend Roger Nores have been charged with manslaughter, Argentina’s prosecutor’s office says.

Ezequiel Pereyra – who also worked at the hotel – and Braian Paiz, a waiter, have been charged with supplying drugs.

Under Argentina’s legal system, the prosecutor’s office gathers evidence which it then presents to a judge, who has to decide whether to proceed to trial.

According to a statement released by the prosecutor’s office, Judge Laura Bruniard already took the decision to proceed to the next stage on Friday.

The 39th US president passed away in his home in Georgia on Sunday

Former US president and Nobel Prize winner Jimmy Carter passed away at the age of 100 in his home in Plains, Georgia on Sunday.

In 2023, the Carter Center revealed that the 39th US president was fighting an aggressive form of melanoma skin cancer. He spent his last years at home under hospice care. He was the longest-lived president in American history.

β€œMy father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love,” his son, James E. Carter III, said in a statement.

β€œMy brothers, sister, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs. The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honoring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”

Born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Carter graduated from a naval academy and served as an engineer on a submarine. He was elected governor of Georgia in 1971 and eventually served as president from 1977 to 1981.
