Raphael Glucksmann has claimed that Americans β€œapparently despise” the gift which symbolizes freedom

French Member of the European Parliament Raphael Glucksmann has urged the United States to return the Statue of Liberty, claiming that recent policy shifts under President Donald Trump contradict the fundamental values the monument represents.

The Statue of Liberty, designed by French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel, was given to the US to commemorate the centennial of American independence. Since 1886, it has stood in New York Harbor as a symbol of freedom and a beacon for immigrants seeking a better life.

Steve Witkoff described his meeting with the Russian president as β€œpositive”

The presidents of Russia and the US might have a call this week to agree on a ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict, Steve Witkoff, a special envoy to US President Donald Trump, has said. Speaking on CNN on Sunday, Witkoff said he had a β€œpositive”meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that lasted between three and four hours.

Witkoff arrived in Moscow on Thursday to present Putin with the details of the truce proposal agreed by American and Ukrainian officials.

β€œWe had some really positive results coming out of Saudi Arabia, discussions led by our National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and our Secretary of State Marco Rubio. I describe my conversation with President Putin as equally positive,” the envoy said. β€œBack before this visit, there was another visit, and before that visit the two sides were miles apart in where they were. The two sides are today a lot closer.”

Update:

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump are scheduled to have a phone conversation on Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has announced.

Peskov confirmed an earlier announcement made by Trump, who told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday that he plans to speak with Putin on Tuesday to discuss the prospects of a peace agreement in the Ukraine conflict.

The crew aboard a SpaceX Dragon capsule sent to retrieve two astronauts stranded in space for nine months were greeted by an ‘alien‘ as they docked at theΒ International Space StationΒ (ISS).

NASA astronaut Nick Hague, who was already aboard the ISS, gave the incoming crew an extraterrestrial welcome by donning an alien mask for their arrival.

The SpaceX Dragon crew successfully reached the station after taking off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.

Their mission was to deliver four new astronauts to the ISS and bring home stranded crew member Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore.

Wilmore swung open the space station’s hatch and then rang the ship’s bell as the new arrivals floated in one by one and were greeted with hugs and handshakes.

“It was a wonderful day. Great to see our friends arrive,” Williams told Mission Control after their arrival.

Dozens of people have been reported killed after US President Donald Trump ordered β€œdecisive” military action against Houthi rebels in Yemen, opening a new salvo against the Iran-backed group that has targeted shipping lanes in the Red Sea.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the US would deploy β€œoverwhelming lethal force” against the Houthis β€œuntil we have achieved our objective,” signaling the start of a major operation that could last weeks and prompting the Houthis to warn of escalation.

The US strikes killed at least 31 people and injured 101 others in Yemen, mostly women and children, the Houthi-run health ministry said.

The Iranian-aligned Houthi rebels, based in Yemen, started launching drone and missile strikes on vessels in the Red Sea in late 2023 in what they say is revenge for Israel’s war in Gaza. The sustained strikes significantly impacted global trade.

The Houthis stopped their attacks when a Gaza ceasefire was declared in January, but have since threatened to resume them due to Israeli aid blockages to Gaza.

In his post, Trump accused the group of waging β€œan unrelenting campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism against American, and other, ships, aircraft, and drones.”

The US president has reiterated his intention to annex the Arctic island from Denmark

US President Donald Trump’s plan to take over Greenland could lead to a war between the US and Denmark, Danish MP and Defense Committee Chairman Rasmus Jarlov has warned. The lawmaker insisted that ceding the Arctic island to the US remains out of the question for Copenhagen.

Jarlov’s remarks came after Thursday’s meeting between Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, where the former reaffirmed his intention for Greenland to become part of the US. Asked about his β€œvision on the potential annexation of Greenland,” Trump responded, β€œI think it will happen,”suggesting NATO could β€œbe instrumental” in the process.

While Rutte stopped short of endorsing the idea, he acknowledged that Trump was β€œtotally right” to raise concerns about security in the Arctic, citing the growing presence of Russia and China in the region.

Over the past decade, scientists have detected a puzzling phenomenon: radio pulses coming from within ourΒ Milky Way galaxyΒ that would pulse every two hours, like a cosmic heartbeat.

The long radio blasts, which lasted between 30 and 90 seconds, appeared to come from the direction of the Ursa Major constellation, where the Big Dipper is located.

Now, astronomers have zeroed in on the surprising origin of the unusual radio pulses: a dead star, called a white dwarf, that is closely orbiting a small, cool red dwarf star. Red dwarfs are the most common type of star in the cosmos.

The two stars, known collectively as ILTJ1101, are orbiting each other so closely that their magnetic fields interact, emitting what’s known as a long period radio transient, or an LPT. Previously, long radio bursts were only traced to neutron stars, the dense remnants left after a colossal stellar explosion.

The US president stated that the discussion centered on ending the conflict

US President Donald Trump has confirmed Washington’s talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday about ending the Ukraine conflict. However, Trump’s announcement on Truth Social caused confusion, making it seem like he spoke to Putin personally.

The White House later clarified that US special envoy Steve Witkoff spoke to the Russian president while visiting Moscow.

In his post, the US president praised the discussions but raised concerns over the thousands of Ukrainian troops trapped by Russian forces in Kursk Region, and urged Putin to allow them safe passage. He concluded his message with a plea for their survival and a prayer.

β€œWe had very good and productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia yesterday, and there is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end β€” BUT, AT THIS VERY MOMENT, THOUSANDS OF UKRAINIAN TROOPS ARE COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY THE RUSSIAN MILITARY, AND IN A VERY BAD AND VULNERABLE POSITION.

I have strongly requested to President Putin that their lives be spared. This would be a horrible massacre, one not seen since World War II. God bless them all!!!” Trump wrote.
