Replacing high-fructose corn syrup with cane sugar in Coca-Cola drinks will lead to economic problems, farmers argue

The Coca-Cola company has agreed to replace high-fructose corn syrup with cane sugar in its drinks, US President Donald Trump has claimed.

โ€I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so,โ€ Trump posted on his Truth Social platform on Thursday.

Cane sugar is โ€œjust better,โ€ he wrote, adding it would be โ€œa very good moveโ€ by the company.

Coca-Cola has not confirmed the switch. โ€œMore details on new innovative offerings within our Coca-Cola product range will be shared soon,โ€ a companyโ€™s spokesperson has told CNN. CEO James Quincey said in April the company was making progress on sugar reduction.

The Trump administrationโ€™s Make America Healthy Again initiative, named for a social movement aligned with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has pushed for excluding โ€œoverprocessed food,โ€ synthetic dyes, and preservatives.
