European diplomats fear the U.S. may withdraw 20,000 troops from the continent

European diplomats are concerned that the U.S. might pull out 20,000 troops deployed to the region in response to escalating tensions after 2022, The Washington Post reports.

Norwegian police said they seized and boarded a Norwegian ship with an all-Russian crew on suspicion of involvement in damaging a telecoms cable linking Sweden and Latvia in the Baltic Sea last Sunday.

The ship, named Silver Dania, was seized at the request of Latvian authorities by Norway’s coast guard and police in the northern Norwegian city of Tromsø. 

“It is suspected that the ship has been involved in serious damage to a fiber cable in the Baltic Sea between Latvia and Sweden,” the police said in a statement on Friday. 

Sweden and Latvia opened an investigation on Sunday into suspected sabotage of a cable linking the two countries, and Swedish police later seized and boarded a Maltese-flagged ship suspected of causing the damage.

The two ships had 29 crew members on board when calls for help were issued, the Russian Emergency Ministry has said

Two tankers carrying oil products are sinking in the Kerch Strait, the passage that connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov, according to the Russian Emergency Ministry.

The Volganeft 212 and the Volganeft 239 sent out distress signals and requested assistance amid high winds and powerful waves. The Russian water transport agency has said a total of 29 crew members were on board the two vessels.

According to Russian media reports, powerful waves struck the tankers several kilometers off the Black Sea coast. The Volganeft 212, carrying more than 4,000 tons of fuel oil, has run aground, and the Volgoneft 239 is drifting after sustaining damage.

Tensions are escalating in Europe with Germany now warning its civilians that they must ready themselves for possible World War Three and instructed them on what they need to do

Germans have been warned to ready themselves for possible WW3 with Russia after Vladimir Putin again threatened a nuclear strike. 

Tensions were further cranked up after US President Joe Biden gave permission for Ukraine to use long range missiles for attacks in Russia and Moscow has since said they have been used to hit a weapons warehouse in the Bryansk region.
