Recently released pharmacovigilance documents by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) indicate that Pfizer was aware of substantial adverse side effects related to its COVID-19 vaccine as early as August 2022. 

The documents reveal a total of 1,597,673 adverse events, one-third of which were classified as serious. A staggering 60% of cases were reported as “outcome unknown” or “not recovered,” suggesting a prevalence of non-transient injuries.

Notably, Pfizer reported over 10,000 categories of diagnosis from the vaccine, many of them severe and rare. A breakdown of some of these includes:

• 73,542 cases of 264 categories of vascular disorders
• 696,508 cases of numerous categories of nervous system disorders
• Over 61,518 cases of more than 100 categories of eye disorders
• Over 47,000 ear disorders, including almost 16,000 cases of tinnitus
• Approximately 225,000 cases of skin and tissue disorders
• Roughly 190,000 cases of respiratory disorders
• Over 178,000 cases of reproductive or breast disorders
• Over 77,000 psychiatric disorders
• 3,711 cases of benign and malignant tumors
• Almost 127,000 cardiac disorders
• Over 100,000 blood and lymphatic disorders

An emergency operations centre (EOC) has been established by the Public Health Ministry in response to over 100 people falling ill from an unidentified pathogen across three districts in Phuket. The pathogen has caused severe diarrhoea among those affected.

Public Health Permanent Secretary, Dr Opas Karnkawinpong, stated that health authorities are investigating the cause of the outbreak, which was initially thought to be a virus. The EOC has been set up to manage the situation, working closely with provincial authorities throughout the investigation.

Dr Opas emphasised that despite diarrhoea having a low death rate, it is crucial to enforce sanitation regulations to prevent it from becoming a public health concern. This comes after a surge of patients presenting with symptoms on Thursday night.

Silvio Berlusconi, the flamboyant billionaire and former Italian prime minister who once described himself as the “Jesus Christ of politics,” has died at a Milan hospital at the age of 86, his press office confirmed on Monday. 

Berlusconi, who had a recent history of health issues, had recently been diagnosed with leukemia, Milan’s San Raffaele Hospital said. He had been admitted to the hospital before with breathing problems, and attended a check-up there on Friday.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has revoked authorization of Johnson & Johnson’s Covid vaccine after it was paused over rare blood clot concerns, which sent demand plummeting. 

The move was not unexpected because J&J’s parent company Jannsen had requested that federal regulators at the FDA withdraw authorization for its vaccine after it was revealed that the last tranche of doses – about 12.5 million – had expired.

As of year three of the Covid pandemic, nearly 231 million Americans have received either one J&J shot or two doses of an mRNA vaccine from Pfizer or Moderna.
