Farmers in Germany blocked roads around the country’s busiest airport today as protests over prices and red tape spread across the continent.

Several hundred tractors blocked the streets leading to Frankfurt Airport throughout Saturday morning as part of a protest against a cut to fuel subsidies that was passed by the German parliament on Friday.

Farmers in Germany have been engaged in massive protests since Olaf Scholz’s  government said it would cut close to a billion euros in farm subsidies in response to a domestic budget crisis.

Washington has launched a new bombing campaign against Iranian-backed fighters in Iraq and Syria

The bombings come nearly one week after a drone packed with explosives struck Tower 22, a US base in Jordan located near the Syrian and Iraqi borders, killing three soldiers and wounding more than 40 others. The attack, which the US blamed on the Iranian-backed Islamic Resistance in Iraq, marked the first deaths of American troops in a wave of assaults triggered by the Israel-Hamas war.

Iran strongly condemns US airstrikes on targets in Syria and Iraq, Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani has said, adding that Washington violated the two countries’ sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Washington’s strike is “another adventure and strategic mistake by the American government, which will have no result other than the escalation of tension and instability in the region,” he said, according to the statement.

Moscow also strongly condemns the US airstrikes on Syria and Iraq and is seeking an immediate review of the attacks at the UN Security Council, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Saturday.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected warships at a shipyard in a renewed drive to bolster his naval forces as his country ramps up “war preparations”, state media said Friday.

In recent weeks, Kim has declared South Korea his country’s “principal enemy”, jettisoned agencies dedicated to reunification and outreach, and threatened war over “even 0.001 mm” of territorial infringement.

He also recently hailed the test launch of a new strategic cruise missile from a submarine, calling it a key moment in the development of the North’s naval power.

Dummy warhead to launch from HMS Vanguard, off Florida’s east coast, before vessel re-enters service after seven-year refit

Britain will test fire a nuclear missile for the first time in eight years.

A warning was issued to shipping that a test would be carried out as HMS Vanguard, a 16,000-tonne Trident submarine, arrived in the Atlantic.

The test, which will involve a dummy warhead, will be carried out by Feb 4 around 90km off Florida’s east coast, with a range of 5,900km.

Kiev used two foreign-made missiles to destroy the Il-76 last week, authorities have said

A Russian cargo plane carrying dozens of Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) for exchange was downed last week by a US-made Patriot air defense system, the country’s Investigative Committee has confirmed.

In a statement on Thursday, the agency said that it had identified the type of weapon used to shoot down the Il-76 last Wednesday over Belgorod Region. There were 65 Ukrainian POWs, three Russian troops, and six crew members on board, all of whom died in the crash.

Officials said that during the investigation they found 116 missile fragments bearing inscriptions in English, with one of them reading: “CONFIDENTIAL classified by PATRIOT SECURITY CLASSIFICATION GUIDE DATED: 9/22/83 ADDENDA DATED 11/28/83 8/8/84 CONTRACT NO/DAAH01-86C-A018.”
