Cyclone Boris is forecast to drop up to 400 mm (15.7 inches) of rain to parts of central Europe over the next 3 days, prompting widespread flood warnings and emergency preparations in countries like the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Germany and Slovakia.

Cold air from the Atlantic Ocean moved over Iceland toward the Adriatic Sea this week, forming a formidable storm β€” named Cyclone Boris, and prompting officials in central European countries to issue widespread flood warnings. This is the second wave of severe weather to hit Europe within just 7 days, marking a sharp end to the European 2024 summer season.

The region has already seen an abrupt shift to cold weather, torrential rainfall, powerful winds, waterspouts, and snowstorms in the second half of the week.

Wind, rain, snow, floods… a “major weather disaster” threatens 7 central European countries (Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia) from Friday with cyclone Boris. Forecast predicts worst flooding in decades.

Arctic Blast Sweeps Through Europe** An exceptionally potent cold front is currently surging southward from the Arctic, enveloping Europe in an early and unusually severe chill. This meteorological event sets the stage for significant snowfall in the Alps and potential flooding across Central Europe. This early September cold snap is remarkably intense, with forecasts predicting over one meter of fresh snow in the higher elevations of the Austrian Alps, and some areas likely to see accumulations surpassing two meters. While the entire Alpine region will experience snowfall, Austria is poised to bear the brunt of this wintry onslaught. Such conditions are extraordinary for this time of year.

Allowing Kiev to use Western weapons system to strike Russian territory will effectively mean NATO’s direct participation in a conflict against Russia, President Vladimir Putin has said.

“An attempt to substitute concepts is being made, because we are not talking about ‘authorizing’ or ‘prohibiting’ the Kiev regime from striking Russian territory. It already does so with the help of drones and other means. But when we’re talking about the use of Western-made long-range precision weapons, it is a different matter entirely,” Putin said in an interview with Russian television on Thursday.

“I have already mentioned this, and any experts will confirm, both in our country and in the West, that the Ukrainian army is not capable of [independently] carrying out strikes using Western modern, long-range precision systems. It cannot do this. This is possible only with the use of intelligence from satellites which Ukraine does not have. This data is only available from satellites of the European Union or the United States, in other words, from NATO satellites. That’s the first point,” Putin said.

The Western media is manufacturing public consent for the move, according to a Russian senator

Washington and London may have already decided to let Kiev use long-range missiles for strikes deep inside Russia and are now seeding the narrative through the media, Russian Senator Aleksey Pushkov has said.

Britain has already given the green light for the use of Storm Shadow missiles, The Guardian reported on Wednesday, citing anonymous government sources. London, however, is not expected to announce the move publicly, the sources claimed.

β€œThe decision to strike Russian territory is clearly being prepared,” Pushkov wrote on Telegram on Wednesday. β€œThere are too many conversations and hints about it for it to be reversed. Even if it has not been made yet, it looks like it will be a matter of days. The leak via The Guardian is not accidental. Public opinion is being prepared.”

Limitations on the use of Western-supplied weapons were originally put in place to allow the US and its allies to claim they were not directly involved in the conflict with Russia, while arming Ukraine to the tune of $200 billion. Kiev has been clamoring for the restrictions to be lifted since May, however.

The US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, gave his strongest hint yet that the White House is about to lift its restrictions on Ukraine using long-range weapons supplied by the west on key military targets inside Russia, with a decision understood to have already been made in private.

Speaking in Kyiv alongside the UK foreign secretary, David Lammy, Blinken said the US had β€œfrom day one” been willing to adapt its policy as the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine changed. β€œWe will continue to do this,” he emphasised.

As part of a broader civil defense initiative, Lithuania is preparing a national evacuation plan while also implementing conscription for school graduates.

Lithuania’s government is developing a national mass evacuation plan to be completed by early October, reports the country’s national broadcaster LRT.

The heightened focus on civil defense in the Baltic region comes against the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and increased tensions with Moscow.

Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite emphasized the urgency of the initiative, saying, β€œToday, civil protection is more relevant than ever. The war against Ukraine continues, countries in our region are experiencing hybrid and disinformation attacks, and sabotage is our new reality.”

Protesters have urged the president to resign, after he picked Michel Barnier to lead the government, rejecting the left’s choice

Mass unrest swept France on Saturday over President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to appoint conservative politician Michel Barnier as prime minister, rejecting the choice of the largest faction in parliament.

Demonstrators called for Macron’s resignation, accusing him of a β€œpower grab”and β€œstealing the election.”

Last month, the French leader rejected the New Popular Front (NFP) alliance’s candidate Lucie Castets for the post, despite the coalition winning the largest number of seats in the July parliamentary election.

This leaves Canadians with no available COVID-19 vaccines until October.

Amid a significant summer COVID-19 wave, the Ontario government is withdrawing and destroying remaining supplies of existing COVID vaccines while Health Canada continues to review new ones, according to Ontario health officials. Ontario health officials say all provinces were directed to withdraw and destroy remaining XBB COVID vaccines by Health Canada.

Or is something else going on?

The move is the result of a contractual agreement between Health Canada and vaccine manufacturers, according to government sources. New, updated vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna cannot be distributed until the remaining supply of older vaccines is withdrawn and destroyed, Ontario’s Ministry of Health says. The new vaccines offer better protection against the COVID-19 strains currently circulating than the previous vaccines.

A popular tourist island south of mainland China has been hit by the most powerful typhoon in a decade, leaving the area facing potentially catastrophic winds and torrential rain.

Super typhoon Yagi slammed into Wenchang city in the north-east of Hainan island with winds of 223 km/h (138 mph) at 16:00 local time (09:00 BST) on Friday, according to state media.

Yagi is the strongest to hit Hainan since Rammasun in 2014, which left 46 people dead. China’s weather agency said it is the strongest typhoon to make landfall in the autumn.

Some 400,000 people in Hainan island were evacuated to safe ground ahead of Yagi’s arrival. Trains, boats and flights were suspended, while schools were shut.

According to the latest CDC guidance, 9-month-old babies must receive multiple doses of an unlicensed mRNA COVID-19 vaccine to be considered β€œup to date” with their COVID-19 vaccination.

Nine-month-old babies must receive multiple doses of an unlicensed mRNA COVID-19 vaccine to be considered β€œup to date” with their COVID-19 vaccination, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The CDC’s updated guidance, issued Aug. 30, states that children β€” as young as 6 months old β€” should get either two doses of the 2024-2025 Moderna vaccine or three doses of the 2024-2025 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

If getting the new Pfizer shot, the baby is supposed to receive the first dose at 6 months, the second dose three weeks later and the third dose at least eight weeks after the second dose β€” meaning, that by 9 months old, babies are supposed to have received three Pfizer shots.

If getting the latest Moderna shot, the CDC recommends babies get the first dose at age 6 months and the second dose a month later.

The latest Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 shots for children under 12 are unlicensed in the U.S. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted only emergency use authorization (EUA) for the vaccines.

Children’s Health Defense (CHD) CEO Mary Holland told The Defender, β€œThe earlier COVID shots have been proven unsafe and ineffective. Now we’re asked to believe that newer versions are miraculously safe and effective?”

β€œThis is an insult to people’s intelligence,” she said, β€œI pray that parents will have the good sense to say no to these dangerous and unnecessary shots for babies.”
