The last of four consecutive supermoons in 2024 rises this week.

November’s Full Beaver Moon will rise on Friday (Nov. 15), just in time for those willing to stay up late for some weekend skywatching. The moment of full moon occurs at 4:28 p.m. EST (2128 GMT) on Friday, but the moon will appear full for most observers for a day or two prior to the moment of exact fullness.

November’s full moon joins another celestrial treat: the lovely Pleiades star cluster, located just beside the moon in the Taurus constellation. This dense cluster of stars, also known as the “Seven Sisters,” is one of the most popular sights of the night sky. Just note that the brightness of the full moon will make viewing most of the stars of this cluster difficult.

This November’s full moon is a supermoon, meaning it’s closer to Earth in its orbit and appears larger and brighter than usual, according to NASA

The next full Moon will occur on Nov. 15, starting at 4:29 p.m. EST. A “supermoon” appears bigger and brighter than usual due to its close proximity to Earth.

President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday picked Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an anti-vaccine activist who dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Trump, to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.

Trump made the announcement on his social media platform, Truth Social. 

“I am thrilled to announce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as The United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS),” he wrote. “For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to Public Health.” 

Donald Trump Jr. also shared the news on X.

December futures spiked to levels last seen in December 2023 on concerns that Russia could halt supplies

Natural gas prices in Western Europe spiked on Thursday following warnings from Austrian state energy giant OMV that Russia could halt supplies.

The cost of gas futures for December delivery at the TTF hub in the Netherlands jumped by as much as 5% to roughly €475 ($502) per thousand cubic meters, or €46 per megawatt-hour, during morning trading, before retreating slightly later in the day. The last time gas futures were at this level was in December 2023.

Gas prices began to surge after OMV, one of the continent’s largest gas traders, warned late on Wednesday about a possible cessation of gas supplies from Russia due to its legal battle with Russian state energy major Gazprom. OMV had previously complained of “irregular” supplies from Gazprom to Germany, before deliveries ended completely in September 2022, and filed a lawsuit against the company’s subsidiary, Gazprom Export.
