The US Department of Health and Human Services announced Thursday it is cutting 10,000 full-time employees across health agencies, the department told CNN.

This comes on top of 10,000 employees who’ve left voluntarily, shrinking the workforce from about 82,000 full-time employees to 62,000.

The cuts were first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

In its announcement, HHS said it will consolidate from 28 to 15 divisions, including a new Administration for a Healthy America, and will reduce regional offices from 10 to five. The workforce reduction will save $1.8 billion per year, the agency said.

HHS’ new priority will be to end β€œAmerica’s epidemic of chronic illness by focusing on safe, wholesome food, clean water, and the elimination of environmental toxins,” the agency said.

The Defense Ministry has reported three more incidents that breach a US-mediated deal

Ukrainian forces have targeted Russian energy infrastructure on three occasions over the course of 24 hours in violation of a US-mediated moratorium on such attacks, the Defense Ministry in Moscow reported on Thursday.

The incidents included a drone strike in Bryansk Region that disabled a high-voltage power line, an artillery strike on a transformer station in the same part of Russia, as well as what the military believe to be an attempted kamikaze drone strike targeting an underground natural gas storage facility in Crimea. In the latter episode, the Ukrainian aircraft was intercepted as it neared the target, the statement read.

On March 18, the Russian military was ordered to refrain from attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure under a deal that was agreed upon by President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump. Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky has publicly supported the 30-day partial ceasefire, which should involve a reciprocal suspension of attacks by Kiev’s forces.

During an appearance in Warsaw with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the NATO secretary general said that the Russian Federation was and remains the biggest threat to the alliance

“If anyone were to miscalculate and think they can get away with an attack on Poland or on any other ally, they will be met with the full force of this fierce alliance.

Our reaction will be devastating. This has to be very clear to Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and anyone else who wants to attack us.”

At least 24 people have been killed as multiple wildfires continue to ravage South Korea’s south-east region.Β

Most of the victims are in their 60s and 70s, say authorities, adding that some 26 people are injured – with 12 in critical condition – as the deadly wildfires have forced more than 23,000 people to flee their homes.

The “unprecedented” crisis remains critical and is “rewriting the record books for the worst wildfires in our nation’s history”, said acting president Han Duck-soo.

The fires gutted the 1,300-year-old Gounsa temple in Uiseong city, where many cultural relics were removed and transported to safer ground.

The fires started in Sancheong county on Friday afternoon and later spread to Uiseong county, authorities said.

Fuelled by strong and dry winds, the fires are advancing to the neighbouring counties of Andong, Cheongsong, Yeongyang and Yeongdeok, Yonhap news agency reported.

A weird glowing orb was spotted spiralling across the sky in the UK on Monday night (March 24).

Social media was awash with posts about the strange circular light which shone across Greater Manchester, Derbyshire, Lancashire, Staffordshire and other parts of the UK.

Pictures and videos shared online showed the bright light which was seen to be ‘spinning’ across the night sky. The beam was noticed by people who took to X and Facebook to question what it was.

“Anyone else just see this in the sky? It just kept spinning,” posted one person from Ashton-under-Lyne on Facebook. Another person in Horwich, Bolton, posted: “Anyone else seen this tonight it was absolutely beautiful flying over Horwich.”

Images were also posted on Radcliffe group followed by a post which read: “Has anyone else just seen this over Radcliffe in the sky because me and the kids are freaked out.

“What have we just seen??? It was moving and then faded away after about 2 mins and there were other small what looked like stars moving around it too.”

As a person in Bredbury, Stockport, wrote: “Did anyone else just see this swirling thing in the sky? It was spinning round and then went off into the distance.”

nother resident in Denton, in Tameside, questioned: “Anyone seen the strange moving objects in the sky? 8pm. One bright thing with white misty rings round it. Moving slow for ages then completely disappeared.”

A reader from Wardle, in Rochdale, said: “A strange bright light with swirls and halo glow around it appeared over Wardle tonight at roughly 19:55.

“It firstly seems to come towards us and then moved away across the sky until out of sight.”

Russia and Belarus announced plans to hold a joint military exercise in September, officials confirmed Thursday. This exercise is part of ongoing efforts by the two neighboring allies to strengthen their military cooperation amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The Zapad, or West, 2025 drill will involve over 13,000 troops, said Valery Revenko, a Belarusian defense official. He added that observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, a top trans-Atlantic security and rights group, will be invited to monitor the drills, News.Az reports citing foreign media.

Belarus’ authoritarian President Alexander Lukashenko, who has ruled Belarus with an iron hand for over 30 years and has relied on Kremlin subsidies and support, allowed Russia to use his country’s territory to send troops into neighboring Ukraine in 2022 and to host some of its tactical nuclear weapons.

Russian troops rolled into Ukraine from Belarus on Feb. 24, 2022, after a joint drill with the Belarusian army. Ukraine and Belarus share a 1,084-kilometer (672-mile) border.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said earlier this month that a Russian military buildup in Belarus, which borders NATO members Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, could set the stage for a potential attack. Russia has repeatedly denied allegations that it could attack NATO members.

Revenko said that Belarus is open for mutual military inspections with Poland 80 kilometers (50 miles) deep into each other’s territory – something he said would signal Poland’s intention to pursue β€œgood neighborly ties.”

β€œIf Poland rejects or ignores such action, we will have a different opinion,” Revenko said.

Greenland’s prime minister said a planned visit to the island by US officials, including second lady Usha Vance, is β€œhighly aggressive,” plunging relations to a new low after President Donald Trump vowed to annex the autonomous Danish territory.

Vance, the wife of US Vice President JD Vance, will travel to Greenland this week to watch the island’s national dogsled race and β€œcelebrate Greenlandic culture and unity,” according to a statement from the White House. National security adviser Mike Waltz is also expected to visit the territory this week, according to a source familiar with the trip.

Greenland Prime Minister Mute B. Egede called the US delegation’s trip to the island β€œhighly aggressive” in an interview with Greenlandic newspaper Sermitsiaq on Sunday, and raised particular objection to Waltz’s visit.

β€œWhat is the national security adviser doing in Greenland? The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us,” Egede said. β€œHis mere presence in Greenland will no doubt fuel American belief in Trump’s mission β€” and the pressure will increase.”

The prime minister of Greenland has hit out at the US following the announcement that Second Lady Usha Vance and senior American officials will visit the island on Thursday. The administration of US President Donald Trump is pursuing control over the autonomous Danish territory and its resources.

Mute B. Egede described the upcoming trip – reportedly involving National Security Adviser Michael Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright – as part of β€œvery aggressive American pressure” aimed at β€œtaking over our country over our heads.”

In an interview with local newspaper Sermitsiaq on Sunday, Egede criticized Western nations for inadequately opposing the US, stating, β€œOur allies in the international community feel like hiding in a small corner and almost whisper their support, which has no effect.”

Denmark will not sell Greenland and will not allow any bribery attempts, despite threats from the U.S.
