There is no future for the country outside of the sphere of Russian strategic interests, the senior official has said
Ukraine lies within the sphere of Russian strategic interests and has no future in any other capacity, Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chair of the Russian Security Council, has stated.
Russian people consider Ukraine to be part of the larger Russian civilization, the senior official said in a speech at a youth conference in Sochi on Monday. Moscow considers it to be the countryβs βsoft underbelly,β from which no threat to Russia should be allowed to be projected.
βThe territories on both banks of the Dnieper River are an inalienable part of Russian strategic historic borders,βΒ he said, using his preferred term for what is usually known as βsphere of influenceβ in geopolitics.Β βAll attempts to change them by force, to cut its living body, are doomed.β
