Cannes and surrounding areas in the south of France were hit by a power cut on Saturday which briefly paused morning screenings on the final day of the city’s annual film festival. Organisers said they had switched to an alternative electricity supply to ensure the closing ceremony would go ahead as planned.

The blackout affected the city of Cannes and surrounding towns, depriving 160,000 households of power supply, said French electricity transmission system operator RTE on its X account.
