The Guardian has announced it will no longer post content on Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, from its official accounts.

In an announcement to readers, the news organisation said it considered the benefits of being on the platform formerly called Twitter were now outweighed by the negatives, citing the β€œoften disturbing content” found on it.

β€œWe wanted to let readers know that we will no longer post on any official Guardian editorial accounts on the social media site X,” the Guardian said.

This is what we’re up against

A media ecosystem dominated by a handful of billionaire owners.

Bad actors spreading disinformation online to fuel intolerance.

Teams of lawyers from the rich and powerful trying to stop us publishing stories they don’t want you to see.

Lobby groups with opaque funding who are determined to undermine facts about the climate emergency and other established science.

Authoritarian states with no regard for the freedom of the press.

The Guardian has more than 80 accounts on X with approximately 27 million followers.
