The Netherlands: The pilot for the vaccination of poultry against bird flu has started. After a successful 1st phase of the field test, this important step can now be taken.
Minister Femke Wiersma (LVVN) and the poultry sector are working together to make large-scale vaccination possible in a responsible manner.
Vaccination plays an important role in significantly reducing the risk of bird flu outbreaks in poultry, which contributes to better protection of both animal and public health.
The pilot will run until early 2027 and will start at 1 poultry farm( No name) , with possible expansion to multiple farms. Chicks will be vaccinated in the hatchery and will eventually be placed as laying hens at a laying farm. The eggs from these hens will be sold exclusively within the Netherlands, with no vaccine marks on the box, so that trade with third countries is not hampered.

This> Similar to messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines that protect humans against COVID-19, this cutting-edge poultry vaccine uses DNA viral vaccine technology to teach the chickenβs immune system to recognize and react to a component of a pathogen. #Netherlands https://t.co/FCddh0gU6S
