The 23rd eruption episode since December just tore open Halemaสปumaสปu crater โ€” shooting lava over 1,000 feet into the air from Kilaueaโ€™s north vent.

For scale: thatโ€™s nearly the height of the Eiffel Tower. The south vent joined in too โ€” with 230-foot fountains of its own. This latest burst started yesterday, part of a relentless cycle of eruption and pause thatโ€™s been building for months.
