Steve Bannon, a prominent right-wing figure and former senior advisor to Donald Trump, was released from prison early Tuesday after spending nearly four months behind bars, US media reported.

Bannon left a federal prison in Connecticut, where he was serving time for a contempt of Congress conviction, just a week ahead of the US presidential election in which his former boss Trump is seeking to regain the White House.

A jury found the top Trump ally guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress. One count came after Bannon refused to sit for a deposition with the committee, and another was for refusing to provide documents.

He was one of two former Trump aides, along with Peter Navarro, who were convicted of defying the committee. Navarro served his $-month sentence in a federal prison in Miami and was released in July.

The biggest decline in fertility rates is among women in the 20-24 and 25-29 age groups, the latest data shows.

The fertility rate in England and Wales has fallen to the lowest level since records began, according to government data.

The average total fertility rate (TFR) – the average number of children born to a woman over her lifetime – was 1.44 children per woman in 2023.

It is the lowest value since records began in 1938, new figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show.

Some 591,072 live births were recorded – the lowest number since 1977.

Figures for 2022 showed the average TFR had declined to 1.49 children per woman, down from 1.55 in 2021.

The car giant’s move comes as Germany’s GDP is set to shrink for the second year in a row.

BERLIN β€” German car manufacturer Volkswagen is for the first time in its 87-year history planning to close production sites in its home market, the company’s works council said Monday.

The car giant, along with the rest of Germany’s once-vaunted auto industry, was slow to invest in electric vehicles and has struggled to catch up with the likes of U.S. rival Tesla and China’s BYD.

Volkswagen intends to close at least three plants in Germany and downsize all remaining factories, the chairwoman of the works council, Daniela Cavallo, told employees in Wolfsburg. The closures could result in the loss of tens of thousands of jobs. Entire departments may be closed or relocated abroad.

A Russian ship loaded with over 22,000 tons of explosives has just docked in a UK port, according to reports.

The docking is provoking fears among Brits within the potential blast radius of the ship dubbed the β€œFloating Megabomb.”

The ship, called Ruby, has been allowed to dock at a British port after weeks moored off the coast.

The vessel is carrying seven times the amount of explosives that devastated Beirut in 2020.

It was anchored off the coast of Margate, Kent, for weeks amid fears it was too deadly to pass through the busy Channel crossing.

Newsweek previously reported that Ruby’s propeller, hull, and rudder were damaged.

Marine Traffic said the Ruby previously left Norway – a country that borders Russia – after making its way to the northern regions of the country.

A new Covid vaccine compensation scheme could be set up for people who say they have been ‘left disabled’ after being jabbed.

(This should be on every news channel worldwide)

Health Secretary Wes Streeting is considering a new programme to help those who are now suffering from life-changing conditions, having taken the AstraZeneca jab.

This comes amid calls to overhaul the existing scheme, Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme (VDPS), as there is concern it cannot handle the current high volume of claims – which latest figures show is more than 15,000.

Some 97 per cent of successful claims relate to the AstraZeneca vaccine with just a handful relating to damage caused by Pfizer or Moderna, according to Freedom of Information requests made by the Telegraph.

One of the key criticisms cited by campaigners is the all-or-nothing payment of Β£120,000.

They argue the payment does not go far enough for those most severely disabled by a vaccine injury, such as those who have suffered brain injuries, are now unable to work and face ongoing care costs for the rest of their lives.

However, those who receive a payout under the scheme can still pursue private legal action against the Government to secure more damages.

Shots have been fired at Evo Morales’ car, according to footage posted on his social media account

Bolivia’s former president Evo Morales has survived an assassination attempt, a video published on his Facebook page on Sunday suggests. The politician was reportedly unharmed in the attack, which allegedly has left his driver injured.

A four-minute video taken from the inside of Morales’ vehicle starts with him sitting in the front seat of the car next to his driver and talking on the phone. Later, the clip shows visible bullet holes in the vehicle’s windscreen. The driver appears to have blood on his head but is apparently still capable of driving. The rear windshield can be seen almost smashed by the bullets.

According to Morales himself, some 14 shots were fired at the car.

The caption says that the former president was about to go on his usual Sunday routine when his vehicle was intercepted by two cars in the central Bolivian town of Shinahota early in the morning. Four hooded people dressed in black emerged from the cars and opened fire on the ex-president’s vehicle, it claims.
