Kiev launched an “unprecedented” UAV attack on Kursk Region during the president’s visit, a Russian officer has said

The helicopter carrying Russian President Vladimir Putin was caught in the “epicenter” of a massive Ukrainian drone attack while the president was visiting Kursk Region earlier this week, Yury Dashkin, a commander of an air defense division, has revealed.

Putin traveled to Russia’s Kursk Region on Tuesday for the first time since it was fully liberated from Ukrainian forces in April. During his trip, the president met with Governor Aleksandr Khinshtein, as well as the heads of local municipalities and volunteers who have been helping those affected by the now-repulsed Ukrainian incursion, according to the Kremlin.

In an interview with the channel Russia 1 aired on Sunday, Dashkin revealed that Putin’s helicopter had found itself “in the epicenter of an operation to repel a massive drone attack by the enemy” in Kursk Region.

Mysterious metal sphere discovered in Buga, Colombia, sparks UFO rumors

Scientists have made a remarkable discovery of a sphere that some believe to be an unidentified flying object (UFO).

The sphere, according to social media page Truthpolex, was spotted March 2 flying over the town of Buga, Colombia, before it landed. Jose Luis Velazquez, one of the researchers studying the three-layered sphere, noted that it shows “no welds or joints,” characteristics normally indicative of human manufacture, which further bolstered his belief in its extraterrestrial origin.

Julia Mossbridge, the executive director of the Institute for Love and Time (TILT), and a member of the University of San Diego Department of Physics and Biophysics, told Fox News Digital she remains skeptical of its extraterrestrial origins.

X, formerly known as Twitter, has gone down for millions of users around the world, with the website, app and XPro all affected.

Thousands of people reported problems in the UK, as well as in countries all around the world.

It’s bad news for Elon Musk after the social media platform experienced similar problems yesterday.

There was also a localised outage across much of the East Coast of America on Thursday.

More than 11,000 users recorded issues with the app in the UK with website tracker Downdetector. In the US, more than 25,000 reported issues.

They described logging in to the app only for no posts to be shown, and receiving an error message stating: ‘Cannot retrieve posts at this time. Please try again later.’

It comes after a huge fire broke out at a data centre in Hillsboro Technology Park in Oregon, US, on Thursday, where it is understood X leases space.

Cannes and surrounding areas in the south of France were hit by a power cut on Saturday which briefly paused morning screenings on the final day of the city’s annual film festival. Organisers said they had switched to an alternative electricity supply to ensure the closing ceremony would go ahead as planned.

The Cannes film festival drew to a close on Saturday, promising to overcome a major power cut in order to hand out its prizes at a VIP-studded ceremony later.

A wry Iranian film about political prisoners and a Ukrainian-directed drama about despotism are among the frontrunners after almost a fortnight of red carpets and politically charged statements.

The blackout affected the city of Cannes and surrounding towns, depriving 160,000 households of power supply, said French electricity transmission system operator RTE on its X account.

Russia launched a major attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and killed at least 13 people in strikes across the country as the two sides released hundreds more prisoners on the second day of a major prisoner exchange.

At least four people have been killed in the eastern Donetsk region, five in the southern Kherson and Odesa regions, and four in the northern Kharkiv region in the past 24 hours, according to regional officials.

Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 14 ballistic missiles and 250 attack drones on the country, with the “main focus” being the capital Kyiv. It said air defenses shot down six of those missiles and 245 of the drones, with projectiles also hitting the Dnipro, Odesa, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.

“It was a difficult night for all of Ukraine,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram, expressing his condolences to families and loved ones of the injured.

President Donald Trump said on Friday that he is recommending a straight 50% tariff on goods from the European Union starting on June 1, saying the EU has been hard to deal with on trade.

“The European Union, which was formed for the primary purpose of taking advantage of the United States on TRADE, has been very difficult to deal with,” Trump said on Truth Social. “Our discussions with them are going nowhere!”

A groundbreaking study published in Nature reveals compelling evidence of a vast ocean trapped deep within the Earth’s mantle, about 400 miles beneath the surface.

This hidden water reservoir, stored within a rare mineral called ringwoodite, challenges previous ideas about how much water the planet holds. Scientists now believe that Earth’s interior contains as much water as all the surface oceans combined, locked inside mantle minerals under extreme pressure and heat.

The discovery focuses on ringwoodite, a high-pressure mineral that forms in the Earth’s mantle between 250 and 410 miles deep. What makes ringwoodite unique is its ability to store water molecules within its crystal structure.

Steve Jacobsen, a co-author of the study, explained, “Geological processes on the Earth’s surface, such as earthquakes or erupting volcanoes, are an expression of what is going on inside the Earth, out of our sight.” He continued, “I think we are finally seeing evidence for a whole-Earth water cycle, which may help explain the vast amount of liquid water on the surface of our habitable planet.
