President Donald Trump has announced that the US will engage in โvery high-level talksโ with Iran over its nuclear program on Saturday, warning that if the negotiations fail, the Islamic Republic will face a โvery bad day.โ
The US president revealed last month that he had sent a letter to Iranโs Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, proposing new negotiations over the nuclear deal which the US unilaterally abandoned during Trumpโs first term in 2018. He went on to threaten Iran with bombing strikes โthe likes of which it has never seenโ if Tehran rejects the offer.
Sitting alongside visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday, Trump stressed his preference for a diplomatic resolution.
