The Dutch armed forces must prepare themselves for a possible deployment at an accelerated pace.

This is what our country’s highest military officer, General Onno Eichelsheim, wrote in a so-called ‘order of the day’ that was distributed yesterday to all 76,000 employees of the defence force, both military and civilian personnel.

“I know that accelerated preparation requires a lot. But it is necessary,” writes the commander of the armed forces. “All military personnel must examine their personal readiness.

” This includes basic skills and having vaccinations in order. All units must also be trained and educated to the required level “as quickly as possible”, says Eichelsheim.

An order of the day is exceptional and is intended for “special announcements” in the armed forces, says a spokesperson.
