The conversation is scheduled for 5pm Moscow time and will be based on the results of recent talks in Istanbul, spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said
Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a phone call with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, at 5pm Moscow time (2pm GMT) on Monday, the Kremlin has confirmed.
The upcoming conversation was initially announced by Trump on Saturday. He said the discussion would focus on “stopping the ‘bloodbath’” between Russia and Ukraine, along with trade issues. He also noted plans to speak with Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky and NATO leaders afterward, expressing hope that a “productive day” would lead to a ceasefire.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the highly anticipated call, Peskov described talks with Trump as “important” in light of the recent Turkish-mediated meeting between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul – their first direct peace talks since 2022.
Update:
Russia “wants to do large-scale TRADE” with the US, Donald Trump has claimed, adding that the potential settlement of the conflict would help Ukraine to become “a great beneficiary” of trade as well.
“There is a tremendous opportunity for Russia to create massive amounts of jobs and wealth. Its potential is UNLIMITED,” Trump wrote.
