Dozens of people have been injured and a 14-year-old girl has died due to a panic attack, the interior minister has said

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Marmaris area of southwestern Tรผrkiye in the early hours of Tuesday, injuring 69 people and resulting in the death of a 14-year-old girl, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.

According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the earthquake originated in the Mediterranean Sea. The epicenter was located 10.43km from the Mugla district of Marmaris, at a depth of 67.91km. In addition to southwestern Tรผrkiye, tremors were felt across parts of southern Greece and the coastal areas of the Aegean Sea, local reports said.

In early 2023, the country was hit by a devastating earthquake that claimed tens of thousands of lives.

A 14-year-old girl in Fethiye died due to a panic attack, despite medical efforts, the interior minister said in a post on X. He added that dozens of people were injured after attempting to jump from heights during the chaos caused by the quake in Mugla Province and surrounding districts.
