Trier car-ramming apparently was βon purpose,β officials say, as 5, including child, confirmed dead
Police have confirmed five deaths in Trier, Germany after a car plowed into a pedestrian area. While the driverβs actions appear to have been intentional, the public prosecutor says there are no indications of an Islamist motive.
The driver, said by police to be a 51-year-old resident of the Trier-Saarburg area, drove a dark grey Range Rover through a pedestrian area of the city on Tuesday, sending victims βflying into the air,β according to witnesses. He was arrested at the scene, after police vehicles allegedly rammed his vehicle to stop it.
WHO rejects China’s propaganda on COVID-19’s start
The World Health Organization is sticking by its assessment that COVID-19 cases first emerged in the city of Wuhan in late 2019, in essence rejecting Chinaβs new propaganda push that infections began in other countries.
Dr. Michael Ryan, WHOβs executive director for health emergency program, said at a press briefing:
βI think itβs highly speculative for us to say that the diseases did not emerge in China. What we do know is the first clusters of human cases that were detected were in Wuhan China.β

China’s consumer goods market is rapidly catching up with the US and is poised to become the world’s largest in the near future, according to a top Chinese economic planning agency official.
“China’s retail sales for the first time surpassed 40 trillion yuan in 2019, an increase of more than 42 percent from 2015. It will overtake the United States to become the top consumer goods market very soon,” deputy chief of the National Development and Reform Commission, Lian Weiliang, said at the China Reform Forum, as quoted by Chinese media.
Russia deploys advanced S-300 missiles to disputed islands near Japan
MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia said on Tuesday it had deployed a number of its new S-300V4 missile defence systems for combat duty on a disputed chain of islands near Japan, a move that is likely to anger Tokyo.
The Russian Defence Ministryβs Zvezda TV station said the mobile air defence system designed to counter ballistic and aerial attacks was on Iturup, one of four islands held by Russia that Japan claims and calls the Northern Territories.

The moment police arrested a car driver who sped though a pedestrian area in the German town of Trier, killing at least two people and injuring several others, has been allegedly caught on video and shared online.
The clip circulating on social media appears to show three officers pinning the suspect to the ground and handcuffing him as several others secure the perimeter.
