Artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT can now search the internet on its own, parent company OpenAI announced in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday.

โ€œChatGPT can now browse the internet to provide you with current and authoritative information, complete with direct links to sources,โ€ the company wrote in a thread on the platform, explaining that the wildly popular chatbot was โ€œno longer limited to data before September 2021โ€ thanks to integration with Microsoftโ€™s Bing search engine.

While the new feature is currently only being offered to paying users, the company said it plans to expand it to all users โ€œsoon,โ€ having taken into account โ€œuseful feedbackโ€ from an earlier failed attempt to give the large language model access to the live internet.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman retweeted his companyโ€™s announcement from his own account on X, declaring โ€œwe are so back.โ€
