Facebook and Instagram are down. This is evident from various reports and data from DownDetector. It is still unclear what is going on.

Thousands of users have been logged out of their Facebook accounts this afternoon.

And upon attempting to re-login, Facebook is insisting that it does not recognise the user’s password – even after changing it.

Hundreds of users have flooded Down Detector with reports of outages on Facebook.

And users of Instagram – which is owned by Facebook parent company Meta – have also reported issues regarding search functions and other functions in the app.

Neither Facebook or Instagram have released statements as of yet to outline what the problem is with the sites.

Update:

Meta says it’s looking into a global Facebook, Instagram outages.

Other Meta services, such as Workplace and WhatsApp for companies, have also been disrupted. The same goes for the Ads Manager, where people can place ads. The status page to see which Meta services are still up and running is also partly down.

In the meantime YouTube is also having some server issues.
