Armed Royal Navy boats are being prepared to patrol the UK’s fishing waters in an apparent final warning shot to Brussels as negotiations enter the final 48 hours. 

Four of the 80-metre vessels are on standby to guard British waters from EU fishermen in case no deal is agreed on fishing rights after theΒ BrexitΒ transition period ends on 31 December.

Donald Trump has accused the Supreme Court of ignoring “many” legal arguments as it threw out a lawsuit, in which Texas sought to overturn the presidential election results in key battleground states.

“The Supreme Court really let us down. No Wisdom, No Courage!” the president angrily tweeted.

Trump wrote that the Supreme Court had rejected the lawsuit filed by TexasΒ “within a flash,”Β andΒ “without even looking at the many reasons it was brought.”Β

US issues emergency authorisation of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an emergency authorisation to use the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on Friday, paving the way for the first Americans to be immunised in the coming days.

β€œI am authorising the emergency use of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID‑19 Vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19,” Denise Hinton, the agency’s chief scientist wrote in a letter to a Pfizer executive.

Japan surpasses 3,000 daily new coronavirus cases for first time – NHK

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan saw more than 3,000 new infections of the novel coronavirus for the first time in one day on Saturday, public broadcaster NHK reported, as the number of cases continues to rise in the winter.

A total of 3,041 people were newly infected, NHK said. Tokyo, Japan’s capital and largest city, on Saturday confirmed 621 new cases.

Iran executes French-based dissident journalist captured last year

Iran said on Tuesday its Supreme Court had upheld the death sentence of Zam, who was captured in 2019 after years in exile. His Amadnews feed had more than one million followers.

State TV said on Saturday Zam, β€œdirector of the counter-revolutionary Amadnews network, was hanged this morning”.
