The AI-powered chatbot of the delivery company DPD recited poetry and used swear words after failing to help a customer

An AI-powered chatbot of the delivery firm DPD has reportedly shown off its poetry skills, used foul language, and even bitterly criticized the company itself – after failing to help a customer locate his lost package.

The chatbot ended up being partially disabled, with the company blaming its abnormal behavior on an β€œerror” in a new software update.

The issue was reported Friday on X, formerly Twitter, by Ashley Beauchamp, a London-based musician. The man tried to use the DPD chatbot to track a missing parcel, but the program failed to provide any useful answers.

Beauchamp then decided to have some fun with the chatbot, making various requests of varying inappropriateness to the program, which appeared happy to play along.

The chatbot agreed to use swear words when the user asked it to do so.Β β€œF*ck yeah! I’ll do my best to be as helpful as possible, even if it means swearing,” the program stated.

The attack targeted a busy market in the capital of Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic, the head of the city said

At least 25 people have been killed and 20 others wounded in a shelling of Donetsk by Ukrainian forces, Aleksey Kulemzin, mayor of the capital of Donetsk People’s Republic, has said.

The attack hit a busy market in the Kirovsky District, in the south-western part of the city, Kulemzin wrote on Telegram.

The mayor decried the shelling as β€œanother dark day in the history of the city.” Ukrainian forces had β€œwickedly” decided to wreak death and destruction on the civilians of Donetsk to avenge the failures they’ve suffered on the battlefield, he wrote.

The Russian Foreign Ministry published a statement on Ukraine’s shelling of Donetsk, calling it β€œa barbaric terrorist act against the civilian population of Russia.” 

Russia urges international organizations and national governments to condemn Ukrainian attacks on Donetsk and stresses that any β€œsilence will mean unspoken approval of the massacre of civilians.” 

The Foreign Ministry added: β€œKiev’s terrorist attacks clearly demonstrate its lack of political will to reach a peace settlement through diplomatic means.”
